Leaving Cert Chemistry
Leaving Cert Chemistry is a two-year course in 5th and 6th year, that covers essential and relevant topics in Chemistry, eg atomic chemistry, organic chemistry, volumetric analysis etc. Leaving Cert chemistry builds on the foundation of what students learned about chemistry in Junior Cycle Science. Leaving cert Chemistry is also a foundation course for those who wish to continue to study chemistry or a related subject in 3rd Level.
The Chemistry course includes 28 compulsory practical experiments which must be completed in the lab. Experimental work is examined as part of the leaving cert exam and forms the basis for a minimum of three questions on the exam paper.
There also is an option to be taken as part of the course which involves the study of atmospheric and industrial chemistry or the study of materials and electrochemistry.
Leaving Cert Chemistry is examined at Ordinary Level (Pass) or Higher level (Honours).
